Text Box: Turbomachinery, Principles and Design

This course will focus on the basic operating principles and design considerations that go into turbomachinery, including compressors, turbines, pumps and expanders. Some of the topics covered in this course include:

Thermodynamics
Compressible Flow Functions
Nozzle Calculations
Power Cycles
Flowpath Considerations
Euler Work Equation
Non-Dimensional Parameters
Efficiency
Velocity Triangles
Reaction
Loss Models
Deviation Models
Flowpath Design
Airfoil Design
And other topics

The course is designed to provide a technical foundation for engineers entering the turbomachinery industry, but is also useful for engineers re-entering the industry after working in other fields, and managers that have no previous experience in turbomachinery or want to better understand the technical aspects of turbomachinery.

The course will be 5 days in length and will be taught by Mr. Stephen Rashid. Mr. Rashid has worked for over 33 years in the turbomachinery industry on numerous types of machinery and applications. His career history can be found here:

The course is currently planned for the spring of 2016, and information updates will be posted on this page. Additionally, information can be obtained from:
